Already Ahead in Flat Panel TV and Compact Car Technology, S. Korea Overtakes U.S. in Stem Cell Research

While Dubya tries to keep us in the dark ages and the fight over stem cell funding rages on in Washington a South Korean team may be making it all moot as they achieved a major breakthrough in stem cell research. Senate Republicans are threatening to override Bush's promised veto of legislation that would expand funding for stem cell research. How is Dubya so out of touch?

This is just another example of how the US continues to fall behind in science and engineering. Yes, part of this lag is due to nerd backlash societal and cultural pressures but the government isn't helping by spending unending billions on poorly justified wars and tax breaks for big business.

As for the important news, check out more details on the stem cell breakthrough from Science Magazine. Remember to use our registration info (see the sidebar on the right of this page) to access the article.

[Thanks again to Erick for the tip. He also pointed out that this was the lead story on the BBC site while cnn.com was debating the choice of colors used by the amber alert system.]
