Update on Iraq's Uglier, Less Oil Rich Little Brother
So with all the ongoing ruckus in Iraq, we haven't heard a whole lot about Afghanistan as the post-war rebuilding has been a relative success. That might be changing for the worse as the growing anti-American sentiment in Afghanistan has resulted in public protests that have turned violent. A few people have even been killed in some of these protests.
Islamic fundamentalist political parties, remnants of the former Taliban government and a renegade anti-American commander, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, are all possible sources of the violence, said Lutfullah Mashal, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry.
I'm a big fan of righteous indignation but I just can't take the kid in this picture seriously. Another interesting point from the article is that reconstruction of the country isn't progressing as quickly as people there are expecting.
